Thompson founded Anchor Fasteners Taiwan in 1986 and later expanded into medical technology by developing ANKER dental implant system, which is now sold globally.  His group operates in China and Vietnam, too.

As former Chairman of the Taiwan Industrial Fastener Institute (TIFI), he promoted the upgrade of Taiwan’s automotive fastener industry.  After his term ended, he donated NT$4.5 million of the association’s surplus funds to 16 social-welfare organizations.

A long-time supporter of Rotary service, Chang highlighted Rotary’s mottos “Service above Self” and “He Profits Most Who Serves Best,” noting that these principles have guided him for long.

This year, he funded multiple community projects, including support for 53 “Rotary Children.”  He also provided living and educational aid to 15 underprivileged Taekwondo students and sponsored buses for a museum outreach program, allowing 2,000 rural students to visit the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.

Rotary Club stated that Thompson's contributions were a major reason for the club’s outstanding achievements, benefiting a record 58 schools.

Additionally, he donated to Kangshan High School for Taekwondo equipment upgrades and contributed NT$100,000 to promote ethics education.  Inspired by former Taiwan President Teng-Hui Lee’s saying “Give back to society what you take from society,” Thompson reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education, helping the disadvantaged and continuing public service.
